Healthy eating
At Ark Acton Academy we value the importance of meal times. We are committed to providing a healthy and nutritious meal for every child. We have an onsite kitchen, run by our partners Chartwells, where all our meals are cooked fresh each day.
We also run a breakfast club where children can get involved in a range of activities and receive a nutritionally balanced meal.
Mental health
In PSHE all pupils are taught how to cultivate healthy habits of minds, what can cause mental ill-health and how to recognise signs of mental health issues.
We work with Place2Be and our in school counsellor, Ms Campbell, to offer a range of support for young people who need it. This could be 1:1 or in a group; short term, long term or as simple as a one off conversation.
We work with partners such as Power2 to run interventions like Power2Thrive, which provides a tailored experience for secondary-aged students, taking them out of their usual school environment for one morning or afternoon a week and into a nursery setting to mentor a younger child for 16 weeks. In doing so, they form meaningful friendships with the children while actively supporting their learning and development.
Physical activity
We make full use of our outstanding sports facilities. All students complete a minimum of 2 hours per week of PE in the curriculum. We run a range of sports clubs each week and every student has the chance to play for fun or join a team. Lunch time sport is organised to ensure all can play. Through the Ark Sports programme, selected scholarship pupils attending masterclasses and training sessions and play at the highest level.
